Well about a week and a bit ago A-V Geckos became A-V Lizards, as we know own a breeding pair of Egyptian Sandfish Skinks! The pair have settled in well and are eating so all looks good, the female may already be gravid but I can't be sure till I either find eggs or babies in their tub. I look forward to the challenge of breeding these guys and hope to be successful in producing babies of these! I will be adding them to the website along with some 'Fact File' pages on all my reptiles so you can learn more about the individuals here at A-V Geckos UK.
Stay tuned for more updates! ~Abbie

Yep, you read it right the first leopard gecko eggs have been laid and are cooking in the incubator. The eggs look nice and healthy but its a bit early to tell if their fertile or not I'm going to leave them cooking in the incubator for a week before candling them. These eggs are from our breeding pair Nevada (Wild Type Unknown Hets Female) crossed with Voldemort (Rainwater Albino Murphys Patternless). I'm looking forwards to seeing these eggs hatch if they are fertile, I'm temp sexing these eggs for females I'm also colour coding the mark on the eggs to the date on the lid of the egg cup so that I can see which clutches where laid on which dates, her second clutch will be temp sexed for mixed, and the next after that will be temp sexed for males. The colour code system will help me identify which ones were temp sexed differently as well which is why I thought it was a good idea to do. I have posted some pictures of the eggs, parents and the incubator above so you can see how we do things here when it comes to incubation from now on.
The next breeding pair will be put together on the 1st of April, this pair will be Torina (Bell Albino Unknown Hets Female) crossed with Larzac (Bell Albino Mack Snow Poss Het Eclipse Male), these two should produce some nice quality Mack Snow Bell babies which I cant wait to see as I have a soft spot for albinos, these will probably be the only albino babies to come out of this seasons hatchlings so they will be easy to tell apart from the others. I will post some photos of these two below so you can see what they look like and roughly get an idea of what their babies may look like when they grow. Our first breeding pair Nevada and Voldemort was a successful corpulation which took place on the 1st of March. Looking for to seeing the outcome of this pairing as they could have some interesting babies.
We will be starting our breeding season in march this year, as I will be receiving a new incubartor for my birthday on the 16th of march, our first pairing may take place on the first of march if the female is up to weight. If the female isn't up to weight the pairings may be held back till the females are ready.
We will only be breeding four of our females this year as one of the two that aren't being used strugggled last year so we wish to give her a break. The second female is quite small so we will be not be breeding her either. Our new crested gecko male has now arrived home today, he is now being settled in to his new tank and will be left along for two weeks to allow him to settle in fully before we start to handle him.
We've given him a naturalistic tank set up, and he has three live plants in his tank, an exo terra canopy worm dish and combo dish. He also has an exo terra jungle vine, we have also gotten him a cork bark hollow hide for him to hide away in. His tank is an exo terra 45x45x60cm glass vivarium, which will have an exo terra day and night light fitted to it. His substrate will be a combination of three things, the first layer will be made up of hydro ball clay substrate, this will give the plants enough oxygen to grow and will keep the water clean. The second substrate layer will be plantation soil, this will be separated by a mesh netting so that the mud does not mix with the hydro balls, the third and final layer of substrate will be the finishing touch to make the tank look nice. The third layer will be forest moss, which will prevent too much risk of the gecko getting impacted yet gives the tank a natural look and helps with the humidity. As soon as the two weeks are up I will upload a few photos of him, but for now I'm not going to stress him out to much on his first day home. I look forward to handling this guy, when we handled him at the shop he had a wonderfully nice temperament and I'm looking forward to getting to know more about him. That's all for now, thanks for reading! ~Abbie The website is nearing completion, there are still a few things that need to be finished off. Hatchlings will be posted in 2015 when we start breeding our geckos again. We hope to get the basics of the site finished off as soon as possible, some things may not be able to be finished until a much later date.
I will try to keep the site as up to date as possible, and I will try to respond to emails and messages as quickly as I can! Hope you enjoy looking through our animals and learning more about them, we hope to hear from you in the future! Thanks For Reading! ~Abbie |
AuthorMy name is Abbie, and I share my love for reptiles with my fiance Vinny. Thus giving us our breeder name as A-V Geckos. We currently only have a small breeding collection, but it is slowly growing bigger and bigger. We hope to offer a variation of hatchlings up for sale, and in the future we may try creating a few small projects with our collection. Archives
