Our new crested gecko male has now arrived home today, he is now being settled in to his new tank and will be left along for two weeks to allow him to settle in fully before we start to handle him.
We've given him a naturalistic tank set up, and he has three live plants in his tank, an exo terra canopy worm dish and combo dish. He also has an exo terra jungle vine, we have also gotten him a cork bark hollow hide for him to hide away in. His tank is an exo terra 45x45x60cm glass vivarium, which will have an exo terra day and night light fitted to it.
His substrate will be a combination of three things, the first layer will be made up of hydro ball clay substrate, this will give the plants enough oxygen to grow and will keep the water clean. The second substrate layer will be plantation soil, this will be separated by a mesh netting so that the mud does not mix with the hydro balls, the third and final layer of substrate will be the finishing touch to make the tank look nice. The third layer will be forest moss, which will prevent too much risk of the gecko getting impacted yet gives the tank a natural look and helps with the humidity.
As soon as the two weeks are up I will upload a few photos of him, but for now I'm not going to stress him out to much on his first day home. I look forward to handling this guy, when we handled him at the shop he had a wonderfully nice temperament and I'm looking forward to getting to know more about him.
That's all for now, thanks for reading!
